Fitness Gets Funky! Sydney Expo 2012…

This weekend I headed down to the annual Australian Fitness & Health Expo – held at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre in Sydney. It’s basically like a trade fair on steroids (sometimes literally!). Producers and manufacturer’s of all things fitness come together to show their wares, from the latest gym equipment, to clothing to supplements to aerobic displays and competitions on the various stages.

It was quite a challenge making your way through the muscles – on both the guys AND girls – but was well worth a visit. press here to con’t..

Focus on your Fitness…& achieve your weight loss goals in 2012!

So its ‘that’ time of year again – it always seems to have gone by so quickly, no matter what we have or haven’t done! It is often a hectic time, generally more socially than workwise, but it is also a great time for reflection. Sometimes to move forward effectively, we need to look back at what we have wanted to do, congratulate ourselves for our achievements, but more importantly look at what we perhaps did not get done and assess the reasons why, to try to ensure that we do not repeat past mistakes? press here to cont..

Different ways you can practice PILATES…explained!

What do you think of when you hear the term ‘Pilates’? Probably something like the picture below, right?

Typically, a Pilates class, especially in a gym, will be a ‘mat’ class (above). This is indeed the best way to start if you are new to the practice and like any new activity it can take time to get the hang of it. To get the most out of your Pilates practice I recommend that you invest just an hour of your time to have a one-on-one session with a qualified teacher, in doing so you can feel totally confident that you are doing it properly and will therefore progress much more quickly. A lot of Pilates involves very slow and controlled movements, that to the naked eye you cannot see, but inside, well – there’s a lot going on! The difference between doing it in the correct form – or not – can be quite a minute movement or ‘contraction’. Mat Pilates involves concentration, balance, control, breath, flexibility and POWER – ‘get’ these and you will ‘get’ it!! – and see amazing results. But Pilates can be much more than just a mat class.

The other main practice is the Pilates ‘Reformer‘…. read more, press here…

Lose weight & get fit….with PILATES!

PILATES…what does it mean to you? A lot of people may simply associate it with lying on a mat and slowly moving into a few different poses, much like Yoga perhaps? Well, believe it or not, Pilates is one of the most effective things you can do both for your fitness levels AND your weight loss!!                                                     As you can see from the above illustration, Pilates can be defined by many words. In my ‘Introduction to Pilates’ video (which you can view simply by pressing on the ‘video’ page of the blog), I go into the history of Pilates. In fact many people do not realise that he was in fact a person. His work really started in the 1st world war whilst he was interned in a war camp in the UK (due to his German heritage). Here, he worked with the rehabilitation of returning wounded soldiers, in the confining space of their hospital beds (later to become a pilates mat!).                                                                                                                                                         Indeed, Joseph continued this theme when read more…
